For five years, Cardano developers have researched and created a new sharding technology called Hydra. Thanks to this project, it is possible to significantly increase the scaling of the 2nd level, using the so-called "hydra heads". This information was made public in the twitter of the founder of the cryptocurrency, Charles Hoskinson.

During the testing, it was revealed that one "hydra head" is capable of processing a thousand requests per second. If one thousand pools use the new technology, then it will be possible to process about one million transactions.

With the help of the channels of the new technology, the load is removed from the main blockchain, this will happen due to the fact that all applications are processed outside the network. Despite the complete readiness to use Hydra, it is necessary to put it into practice and optimize the workflow, for this very reason Cardanos developers continue to work on the implementation of the technology.

Charles Hoskinson knows firsthand about all the scalability issues in every smart contract chain. Crypto creators have been trying to implement sharding on Ethereum for a long time, so if the implementation of Hydra is successful, all scalability problems may be solved.
